A few day ago, I announced a new uncensored Bitcoin IRC channel. Today, I am happy to report that we now have 50 users after just three days. I would also like to thank the team at Bitcoin.com for listing this channel on https://irc.bitcoin.com/ This was an incredibly important step, because Freenode suggests that channels be associated with a project: https://freenode.net/policies "Channels on freenode fall into one of two categories. Primary channels, which begin with a single # character, are reserved for on-topic projects. If you’d like to take over one of these channels, then you’ll need to be associated in some way with the project in question." I have noticed that some people have drawn attention to this, and was worried about some bad actors mis-informing Freenode and trying to get this uncensored channel shut down. Is the chat log for the #bitcoin IRC channel stored anywhere on the Internet? I can find the log for other bitcoin-related channels, but not the main #bitcoin one.
Does anyone have a IRC channel that they frequent that contains market discussion. I'd like to avoid a trollbox type deal, but wouldn't mind wild speculation on occasion. If this doesn't exist, would someone be interested in creating one for this sub?
I've read that hackers have targeted people who connect to public Bitcoin IRC channels for DOS attacks and hacking attempts for their wallets held on their computers. Needless to say, this is something I would want to avoid. I don't hold much BTC on my computer, but still, opening my self up as a target is not something I would like to do. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
